Beach Cruiser vs. 10-Speed

So we’re getting ready to make the next pitstop before we get our own lil’ home. Some of our friends, Bryant & Karen Eaton graciously talked to Bryant’s parents who are here in Poway about letting us stay with them until we can move into our place. They were kind enough to say yes. We are so blessed and I’m excited to be moving one step closer to our own place again. It’s been a blessing to be living out in the country more than Ben and I think we’d ever imagined we could. We’ll miss the sound of the coyotes, the birds flying around above with such peace about them and our favorite squirrel family. I’ll miss watching them tumble around on the lawn while mom and dad are perched up on top of the boulder keeping an eye out for danger. I’ll be foreign to be cooking with our own pots & pans again. I can’t wait to be able to cook Ben a nice dinner and then watch a movie on our own couch. The last (4) months has given me an understanding that life will go on smoothly if you want it to. I’ve learned that a lot of things I thought I was in control of well, I’m not. And the things that I didn’t think I had control over are right at my finger tips. Call it satan’s lies, societies messed up way of conditioning or my own weaknesses to growing up. The fact is that we never stop growing. We will never wake up here on earth and say to ourselves I’ve got it all figured out. It’s just not going to happen. It’s not a bad thing to come to an understanding that we just don’t have that option- it’s just fact. In fact I’ve felt a huge weight off my shoulders since accepting this. Just like in Matthew 11:30 when Jesus says “my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” and when we finally get into His ways things actually feel lighter in life. This is not to be misunderstood as me saying life is easy- it's not. Think about it this way: you can get through life on a beach cruiser, right? But that same ride on a 10-speed has a different feel to it. Certain things you'd need to do on a beach cruiser, like pump your brains out to go up a hill aren't the same with a 10-speed. The 10-speed gives you options with how much you are going to need to be pumping to get over the next hill.

We all have options, free will, but when you see a new way of doing the same old things it's exciting when they begin to lighten your burden in life.

I couldn't agree more with your comment Jessica..."We all have options, free will, but when you see a new way of doing the same old things it's exciting when they begin to lighten your burden in life." This is such and encouragement. Thank you!

I think I see what you're saying here. You might go through your whole life and not know everything, but you will know that beach cruisers won't go over hills the same way as a 10 speed, right? Would that mean that a steel frame beach cruiser would make, hypothetically speaking, a heavier burden for Jesus, or would it a heavier yoke?
